Rack and Pinion

Overview

A rack and pinion is a mechanical linear actuator that converts rotational motion into linear motion. It consists of a circular gear called the pinion, which meshes with a flat, toothed linear bar called the rack. Turning the pinion drives the rack in a straight line; conversely, moving the rack linearly forces the pinion to rotate.
